Explosions ripped through the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.  The bombing occurred on Boylston Street, a main road in the city.

At least 144 were treated for injuries at nearby hospitals and Krystle Campbell, 29; Lü Lingzi, 26; and Martin Richard, 8 lost their lives that day.  The manhunt for suspects ensued in Boston as other parts of the country raised their alert levels.

A security scare at LaGuardia airport resulted in the evacuation of the premises.  Similarly a grenade shaped novelty lighter forced officials at the Miami airport to evacuate the main terminals.

On April 20, 2013 those responsible for the bombing, Tamerlan (now dead) and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were found.  However, until the reason behind the bombing is discovered the country will likely implement heightened security measures.
